What Should We Do?

There is a reason John comes first at Advent: we can find meaning in the manger only if we are led by the Baptist. His message in Luke's gospel helps us see the disconnect between what God desires for us and what we actually do. When people respond by asking, "What then should we do?" he reveals that God desires a change that involves greater justice and healing for everybody! The Holy Spirit, in whom we are baptized, empowers us for a life of active love for others.
