Because He Lives...We Have Hope
This sermon explored the profound truth that because Jesus has been raised from the dead, we have a living hope that suffering cannot touch. Peter wrote to early Christians who were living as "chosen exiles"—fully belonging to God yet not quite at home in the world around them. They faced harassment, persecution, and daily struggles. Yet Peter doesn't begin his letter by focusing on their suffering; he begins with praise to God for His great mercy. In raising Jesus from the dead, God didn't just do something for someone—He rewrote the very nature of the universe and ushered in a new age. We now live in the "already but not yet" of God's kingdom. While we experience trials in this life of exile, when we choose to accept and live in the hope God offers us, those trials become like the refining fire of a forge rather than a destructive wildfire. They purify and strengthen our faith rather than destroy us.
