Episode 5: Shema

In Deuteronomy 6, Moses stands on the edge of the Promised Land and gives a new generation of Israelites words to build their lives upon: Listen. Love. Live.

The Shema calls God’s people to listen to His voice above all the competing voices around them, to love Him with everything they have, and to trust that life fully surrendered to God is the way to true life. These words weren’t meant to remain on stone tablets or be confined to religious moments—they were to be written on the hearts of God’s people and woven into the ordinary rhythms of everyday life.

And they weren’t meant for one generation alone. Moses calls Israel to impress these words upon their children, reminding us that the next generation needs more than information about God; they need to see what a life with God looks like. As we listen to God, love Him with our whole lives, and embody His ways in our homes, relationships, work, and everyday routines, we show those coming behind us that Jesus is worth building a life around.

Listen to the Lord. Love the Lord. Because the Lord is your life.
