Becoming Mature Disciples
In this message, we explored Jesus’ final words in Matthew 28:18–20, the Great Commission, and what it truly means to be a disciple. Jesus did not call us merely to be church attendees, converts, good people, or even Bible-knowers. He commanded us to make disciples: people who follow Him with their whole lives. A disciple is someone who is with Jesus, becomes like Jesus, and learns to live as Jesus lived. Discipleship is not about information alone, but about transformation—having our identity, desires, and allegiance reshaped by Christ.
We also saw that Jesus’ vision for the church is multiplication, not just addition. Every disciple is called to help others follow Jesus, and when disciples make disciples, the impact grows far beyond what any one leader could accomplish. Though following Jesus comes with real cost—requiring us to deny ourselves and take up our cross—it also brings true life, freedom from sin, and deep joy. As we reflected together, we were invited to consider what Jesus is calling each of us to surrender, how He is inviting us to obey, and who He might be asking us to walk alongside as we continue becoming mature disciples.
